The Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer has finally dropped and it is brilliant.

Instead of running you through every frame of the trailer we decided to do something a little different. We are going to run you through a quick and short run down of what we think the trailer could depict of the future in the film in a short post before a more in-depth review of the trailer. The link for the trailer will be down below. Watch it before you read on!

Luke is going to train Rey but there’s a catch

The Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer shows various little clips of what looks like Luke training Rey. She seems to be very powerful, a lot more powerful in fact than in the 1st instalment (The Force Awakens)

Luke appears to be quite wary of Rey’s power and you can even sense a little bit of fear, this reassures just how powerful Rey really is: “I’ve seen this raw strength only once before,” Luke says, echoing Snoke’s opening words. “It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.” This comes onto a different point which is Rey’s power reminds him of someone else. This trailer makes you feel like this is about Kylo Ren, it shows a flashback of the Jedi Training School being burned down and Luke emerging from the rubble, this seems to point at Kylo Ren betraying Luke and showing Luke how much power he has. This is why he seems scared of training Ren and could be the start of problems within the film.

Supreme Leader Snoke has plans for Kylo… or does he?

“When I found you I saw raw, untamed power. And beyond that, something truly special.” Is the first voice-over in the trailer which automatically makes you assume that he was on about Kylo, this is backed up by Kylo picking up his saber in a red room as Snoke is speaking. However, Rey is in the same exact room not long after and it appears that she is being tortured by Snoke. Maybe Snoke had got Rey and tried to convince her to join the dark side? This trailer gives you a lot of alleyways to pursue!

It hints at Finn turning his back on his friends?

There’s a couple of little moments in the trailer which hints at Finn being back with the First Order as he is in First Order attire and even looks serious as he is marching with troops. There is a guess that he is working undercover and the fight between him and Captain Phasma (Round 2!) could be after the end of his undercover work. The whole trailer gives you one impression and then makes you think the opposite!

There’s a special connection between Kylo and Rey

The way the trailer is made, it cuts between Kylo and Rey with a shot making it look as if they have come face to face, this ends with Kylo reaching out his hand to help her. This could just be a massive re-direct or it could be the start of a special bond between the two. There has been a lot of hints that there is a special connection, especially when the official website confirmed that there is “A mysterious connection seemed to link the two”.

There’s still good in Kylo

There were many theories about the Force Awakens in that Han killed himself with Kylos saber so that he would always have a bit of good in him, a scene in the trailer shows Kylo have the chance to kill his mother Leia but he seems to bulk at the chance before it cuts to the next part. You can see the uncomfortableness in his face. This could all be the work of clever editing, just as the part with Kylo and Rey.
