What are the new features?
Do not disturb while driving
This latest feature is a great car safety upgrade to help with car safety and to stop people looking at their phone while driving. The system determines how fast you are moving. If you are going quicker than a certain speed, the iPhone screen is blank with a widget telling you no notifications will display while you are driving. It can also send auto-replies to alert your contacts that you are driving. However, you can set certain contacts to text back saying ‘urgent’ which then shows their notification through the safety app.
Automatic Wi-Fi joining – being able to disable it
iOS 11 has added a new feature which stops your iPhone from joining every network you walk past while still connecting to the networks you have authorised or know.
Type to Siri
Siri is a great asset to Apple products and is very useful. One of the main issues with Siri was the fact that if you had a strong accent, Siri would not be able to understand your commands more often than not. Apple is aware of this and has added a new feature where you are now able to type your commands to Siri, being effective towards people with a strong accent and greater accessibility.
iCloud Keychain in third-party apps
When downloading a new app that you have been using on Safari can be a pain, remembering that password can be hard or even trying to remember your username sometimes. iCloud Keychain is now accessible to third-party apps, which allows you to save your details and sign in quicker/easier.
Creating Watch Faces
Having an Apple watch is great but having a wallpaper can be tricky due to sizing and shape of the apple watch screen, iOS 11 aims to solve the problems by having a function that allows you to select a photo and create it into a watch face. The images can be displayed as a kaleidoscope or as a regular picture.
It has been no secret that Apple wants to implement Augmented Reality into their phones and lead the market, iOS 11 is a stepping stone to getting to this goal. ARKit is now confirmed to be on iOS 11 and allows users to have great high-end augmented reality in their apps without having to develop the augmented reality their-selves. It is ideal for current AR related apps such as Pokemon Go as it makes the AR side of their app to the next level.
