It’s now official, the next iteration of Android will be called Android 8.0 – Oreo
Here’s everything you need to know about Android O (so far)
1. It’s the second time in Androids history that a commercial partner is involved
- Android has only once before used a commercial partner with their Android OS name, and the first time was with Android 4.4 – KitKat
2. Google has listed devices that will have Android Oreo by the end of this year
- These devices include Essential, General Mobile, Samsung, HTC, HMD Global (Nokia), LG, Motorola, Sharp, and Sony
- These devices will either launch or get Android Oreo by the end of the year
3. New App icons

- Not a biggie but still cool to know, Oreo will provide the tools to allow developers to animate the app icons and make their apps have a bit more personality

4. Emojis

- Android Oreo will provide over 60 new emojis while also redesigning all of the current emojis it has to offer
- Examples of the new emojis include Giraffe, Mermaid, Wizard, and even afairy

5. New features

- New features come with the next version of Android;
- The new confirmed features are picture-in-picture support, faster boot speeds, notification dots, Google Play Protect now default, the reducing of battery use for background apps, Android Instant App support and auto fill system-wide

The new Android installment is shaping up to be a great yearly refresh, and Android Oreo is looking sweet indeed. The update has no release date just yet, but people who are in the Android Beta Programme or own a Pixel/Nexus will be getting the full build first.
